Reborn Voice of suka

Among the music groups, which use ethnic inspiration, Reborn is a very special formation.  Four women belonging to 2 generations, using for playing only reconstructed forgotten Polish knee position fiddles.  This is the only exiting band using such instruments in different sizes. Therefore the concerts of the Reborn, give a unique opportunity of listening to the sound of the past tradition, not to be heard anywhere else. Unusual is fact that band was created only 1 year ago but their CD "Voice of suka" immediately found itself on prestigious British list :Top of the World typed by Songlines ( April 2017)

Unquestionable leader of the band is Maria Pomianowska- who as a first person who 20 years ago reconstructed technique of playing 3 forgotten Polish instruments: Bilgoray suka, Plock fiddle and Mielec suka. The basic instrument of the Polish folk music is a violin. Since modern violin is a relatively new element in the folk music, Reborn  decided to revive the distinct past time tradition, namely instruments played using a so-called fingernail technique, including a 16thC. Plock fiddle, Bilgoray suka and Mielec suka  which survived until the end of the 19thC. The 6-string fiddle from Płock was excavated in 1985. The 4-string sukas have been reconstructed on the base of iconographic sources, since no specimen of the instruments had survived until the modern days. The exemplars used by Reborn, are the first correct reconstructions ofthose instruments, the form of which shows some features of transition from old folk instruments to classical violin. Contemporary reconstruction was possible, thanks to the long and profound experiences of the leader of the band with instruments from South Europe and Asia. In Reborn band, we can also hear Aleksandra Kauf. She studied cello at the Krakow Academy of Music from 2009 to 2012. Currently studying knee-supported fiddle under Maria Pomianowska. Participates in numerous international projects, including the Baltic Culture Wave, which includes artists from Denmark, Lithuania, Germany, Poland and Sweden. In 2013, she was a member of the "Poland-China" project, which was presented in several Polish cities. In 2015 and 2016, she co-authored the Poland-India project, which has been presented several times in both India and Poland and Polish-Chinese project performed in China. Third girl playing in Reborn is Iwona Rapacz. Similar like Maria Pomianowska and Aleksandra Kauf she studied cello. They are friends with the leader of the band since 20 years playing together in hundreds of different projects in Europe and Asia. Iwona worked with the Polish Radio Orchestra, as well as the Polish Chamber Philharmonic. The last girl in this female band is Patrycja Napierała. For nearly two decades, she has worked with groups associated with the World, Pop, classical, contemporary, popular and illustrative music stages.
